NAFA Introduces Studio Techniques to New Audiences
March 23 2017, Toronto, Canada – From March 15 – 17 2017, NAFA participated in the Spring Edition of CHIC Shanghai, bringing Studio NAFA to visitors and exhibitors of the China International Fashion Fair. During the three-day event, NAFA created a pop-up Studio NAFA space inviting visitors to experience and explore different techniques and designs one can create using NAFA fur and mixed materials. Led by NAFA’s Senior Fur Technician, John Kehagias, different fur technique samples were created on site for visitors to watch in live, step-by-step demonstrations. Drawing in crowds of spectators throughout the day, Kehagias, accompanied by Studio NAFA Alumnus and budding fur designer, Ricky Sun, cut, sewed and stitched a variety of patterns to hang on display.
“The Chinese market is expanding at a such a rapid pace, we see so much opportunity and growth for fur design here,” said Lumin Yao, General Manager of NAFA China. “Bringing Studio NAFA to the fashion community at CHIC allowed us to introduce new techniques and inspiration to designers, students and buyers at the fair.”
With a 15% increase in attendance since last season, CHIC had 108,164 visitors come through the doors, with 1372 brands exhibited from 21 countries. Positioned in the Heritage section, NAFA held a grand presence in a corner booth.
“We received an excellent response from the audience here,” continued Yao. “Shanghai is the creative capital of China where we can develop and connect with talented designers to show them the exciting ways to use NAFA fur.”
NAFA will continue to develop Studio NAFA in China with plans to host a variety of workshops in 2017.
